Burbank Human Relations Council leads Days of Remembrance candlelight program; council issues civic proclamations

At its May 5 meeting, the Burbank Human Relations Council presented the city’s annual Days of Remembrance commemoration. Laura Strobble, president of the council, introduced community participants who lit candles and read survivor family memories. Students and community members reinforced the event’s theme, “Bridging Generations,” urging younger residents to carry forward what survivors have shared.
The council also issued multiple proclamations in the early portion of the meeting: Mayor Tamila Takahashi read a formal proclamation designating local Days of Remembrance (April 13–20, 2026); the council proclaimed May 2026 as Older Americans Month and recognized recipients of the Peter McGrath Older Americans Volunteer Service Awards. Other proclamations recognized Municipal Clerk’s Week and National Correctional Officers Week; the council likewise proclaimed May 10–16 National Police Week.
Speakers: Laura Strobble presented the Holocaust commemoration; several community members and students lit the seven candles and shared reflections. Cynthia Alba was introduced as the city’s new Business Development Concierge, and Parks & Recreation staff announced volunteer award recipients.
