JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — At its Dec. 2 meeting, the Cole County Parks Committee received routine maintenance updates, confirmed a completed flagpole installation, and reviewed changes to its long-range priority list ahead of the next sales-tax cycle.
Kevin Bishop told the committee that County Park restrooms are closed for the season and "should open around April, weather permitting." Staff said they will winterize the facilities and said they may turn water back on during warmer winter periods so the restrooms can be used. Aaron Lock suggested leaving water on rather than having the water company lock it, to allow intermittent winter use.
Eric Landwehr reported the new flagpole is installed and illuminated. Landwehr also reviewed adjustments to the committee's priority list: circle parking-lot overlay and improvements were moved higher on the list and likely would be considered in the next sales-tax cycle. He said the County Commission has decided on a 10-year sunset for the sales-tax measure rather than a five-year sunset.
Landwehr said the parks department will pursue a grant to build a new playground. Given the committee’s recommendation on a leash ordinance, staff suggested it may be appropriate to add a fenced dog park back to the priority list.
The committee did not record a formal motion to adjourn; members noted the next meeting is scheduled for March 19, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
