Commissioners weigh in on wolf management and ratify comments to CPW

Rio Blanco County commissioners on May 5 approved a letter to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and ratified public comments previously submitted to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) on furbearer rulemaking.
During discussion on the USFWS letter, a commissioner said the county’s position is that CPW is not adhering to planning it had helped develop and that federal oversight would be appropriate. "We are supportive of the Fish and Wildlife Service having good oversight of that instead of letting Colorado just kind of run with it," a commissioner said. The board then voted to approve sending comments to the federal agency.
On furbearer rulemaking, commissioners noted the petition process and disagreement between staff recommendations and commission action in recent CPW deliberations. The board moved to ratify the county’s public comments to CPW and recorded that action by roll call.
No further public testimony was offered on these agenda items at the meeting.
