Chickasha council approves $100,000 TSET grant for Shannon Springs pavilion and several parks equipment purchases

The Chickasha City Council approved a $100,000 grant agreement with the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) to fund a multi‑use pavilion at Shannon Springs Park and authorized the mayor to execute the agreement.

Parks and Recreation Director Andy Conurs told council the grant was written broadly to allow either a standalone pavilion or a cover for the existing amphitheater; staff will work with the parks and recreation advisory board on final design and return with recommendations. Conurs said the grant will fund construction options and that details about the pavilion footprint and design will be determined through that process.

Separately, council approved authorization to purchase a Toro Field Pro 6040 mower for the sports complex under a Sourcewell contract. Discussion noted the equipment will help staff maintain fields and infields and complement planned infield improvements.

Council also approved a proposal with United Turf & Track to improve infield playing conditions at the sports complex; staff said the vendor brings specialist capability to get the infields in playing condition and that the newly purchased equipment will support ongoing maintenance.

Votes on the grant, equipment purchase and infield improvements were taken by roll call and recorded as approved in the meeting transcript. Staff said funds and procurement contracts comply with applicable purchasing rules.

Next steps: staff will work with the parks advisory board on pavilion design, schedule equipment delivery and implement the infield work in coordination with the parks maintenance schedule.
