Chandler City Council honors employees, proclaims Officer Christopher Ferrar Remembrance Day

The Chandler City Council used its May 4, 2026 study session to recognize longtime employees and to proclaim an Officer Christopher Ferrar Remembrance Day.
City Manager John Septton introduced Julie San Miguel and presented her with a 10-year service award, praising her decade of work supporting the courts, the planning division and, most recently, the Community Services Department. "Julie, your impact is felt far beyond your single assignment. You lift the people around you," Septton said.
Sandeep then honored Mark Gregory of Information Technology with a playful poem highlighting his role in upgrading systems and supporting thousands of city devices. "Mark, you're the techie that keeps the city of Chandler 100% tech bonafide," Sandeep said.
Assistant Chief Jason Sakowski introduced Sergeant Sam Wagner and outlined Wagner's career since joining the Chandler Police Department in 2016, noting promotions, certifications in drug recognition and HGN, leadership in the Chandler Law Enforcement Association and awards. Sakowski said Wagner has conducted approximately 5,400 traffic stops and nearly 1,000 DUI arrests during his career.
Mayor Harky read a proclamation declaring April 30, 2026 as Officer Christopher Ferrar Remembrance Day, commemorating Officer Ferrar's death in the line of duty on April 30, 2021 and recounting his service, awards and roles. Family members including Bill, Linda and Angela Ferrar were invited forward for the presentation and a photo.
The council also proclaimed May 3–9, 2026 as Celebrate Chandler Public Service Recognition Week and invited representatives from across city departments to accept the recognition. Priscilla Canana addressed the council on behalf of employees, expressing gratitude for leadership and community support.
After recognitions and the proclamations, the mayor noted the council's short agenda and closed the meeting.
