North Ridgeville board holds first readings on contracts, policy updates and staffing items; many items set for May 18

At its May 5 meeting the North Ridgeville Board of Education received a first reading of a broadly scoped consent agenda and multiple policy updates that will return for second reading on May 18.
Administration outlined recommended agreements and renewals including a partnership to provide access to an Air Force Jr. ROTC program through Midview local schools and a proposed multi‑year renewal of the GoGuardian platform covering the 2026–2029 school years. The first reading also listed numerous service agreements for the 2026–2027 school year for counseling, special education providers, diagnostic assessment, and specialized transportation for students experiencing homelessness.
Administrators presented proposed changes to the district’s pay‑to‑participate and school‑fee schedules and requested approval for supervised overnight field trips for boys’ and girls’ basketball teams in June 2026, with final consideration set for the May 18 meeting.
Board members also heard a first reading of many revised policies including name/image/likeness for student athletes, athlete job‑related expenses, insurance requirements, grading and class rank, graduation requirements, budget preparation, purchasing and bidding, procurement cards and vendor relations, and a policy on artificial intelligence. Mrs. McCarthy noted the items were being read to the board for the first time and would return for action at the next regular meeting.
Communications reported a list of accepted gifts and donations to the district — ranging from equipment for broadcasting classes to monetary gifts for school improvement and teacher grants — and thanked community donors. During the human resources portion of the meeting a motion to approve listed human resources items was moved and seconded; the roll‑call vote recorded affirmative responses for the members listed in the transcript and the motion carried.
No final board action was taken on the first‑reading items; the administration scheduled the second reading and consideration for approval at the May 18 regular meeting.
