Greenwood County Council approved Ordinance 2026‑16 on its third and final reading to rezone two parcels totaling approximately 15.68 acres at 1511 96 Highway in District 2 from AG2 (agriculture) to I1 (light industrial) for Chandler Construction Services.
Planner Mr. Rushin explained the property’s history as a legal nonconforming use since 1971 and said the rezoning would regularize the company’s expansion into the appropriate district. Planning staff recommended approval and the planning commission had earlier voted unanimously to recommend approval as well.
Patrick Hobson, who identified himself as president of Chandler Construction Services and listed the company address as 1511 96 Highway, spoke in favor and said the company employs about 115 people. Hobson objected to public comments that compared Chandler Construction to a chemical production facility and asked council not to allow those comments to influence the land‑use decision.
After closing the public hearing, council voted unanimously to approve the rezoning on a motion by Mr. Allison and a second by Ms. Bishop.
Next steps: The ordinance was adopted at final reading and will be reflected in the county zoning map; any required permits or site‑specific approvals will follow normal permitting procedures.
