District says it received thousands of pages in raw-water intake discovery; depositions next step

Martin County Water District counsel updated the board on the ongoing raw-water intake litigation, saying the district had received an extensive discovery production from the grantee/contractor and is preparing the next phase of litigation.
"We received about 4,700 and some pages of information," counsel told the board, and staff marked the pages they considered relevant before providing the marked materials to district counsel. Counsel said they are now extracting the pertinent excerpts and have set up a SharePoint site to exchange supplemental information requested by opposing counsel.
The district27s counsel said the next likely procedural step is depositions after the teams complete targeted review of the produced documents. The board also discussed an outstanding contract dispute over the form of the engineer-of-record agreement for a related cold-water project; the district has requested explicit recognition as the project owner in the engineer-of-record document, and the grantee27s attorney has refused, citing provisions of the prime grant agreement.
No new motions tied to litigation were taken in open session beyond authorizing staff and counsel to continue document exchange and prepare for depositions; the board was told it will be patient as counsel extracts the relevant material from the production and responds accordingly.
