At the Sept. 16 meeting the Aberdeen City Council held a public hearing and approved Resolution 24901, the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for the coming year. City Manager Robin described the largest share of CIP work as wastewater treatment projects and noted the potential addition of a public works facility once a site is identified.
Council then considered Resolution 20492 to allocate promotional-fund dollars. Robin said staff made small adjustments to fully allocate the roughly $1.3 million available instead of increasing the fund reserves. She described examples of promotional spending that met the fund’s intent, including regional tournaments at the Dome that filled hotel rooms and Storybook Land programming supported through a partnership with the local club. “The baseball tournament brought in people from seven different states and Canada,” staff said, and the council agreed additional promotional funds for Dome programming would help drive winter activities and outside visitation.
Council members asked clarifying questions about project lists in the CIP and the allocation methodology; staff said members had several opportunities to review the materials in advance. Both resolutions were approved by roll-call votes.
