Commissioners table plan to move fire administration to 756 Woodbury Highway; work session set for May 11

Commissioners on April 28 tabled consideration of relocating Meriwether County fire and EMS administrative offices into Building A at 756 Woodbury Highway and scheduled a May 11 work session for a detailed review.
Staff and Fire Chief Stevens described Building A as largely serviceable for administrative offices with limited work needed—primarily installing an exterior door and painting— and said much of the minor work could be completed in‑house. The chief noted the building could consolidate administrative staff, provide classroom space for training and improve public access for report pickup.
Commissioners raised questions about vehicle access and emergency egress, the number of staff to be moved, square footage needs, IT infrastructure and how the move would affect other county facilities. One commissioner moved to table the item until the May 11 work session so staff could present a plan, cost estimates and a timeline; the motion passed.
Staff will prepare a layout showing staff assignments, a list of modifications and projected costs for discussion at the May 11 meeting.
