Pinole seeks public input on Hazard Mitigation Plan before FEMA review

Mayor Moren Thoms said Pinole City is working with the county office of emergency services to develop a local Hazard Mitigation Plan that identifies strategies to reduce risk from natural and human-caused hazards including earthquakes, wildfires and hazardous spills.
Thoms announced a public review period for the plan that runs through the end of May and said the plan must be submitted to and approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the city to become eligible for pre‑disaster funding and recovery assistance. “We are seeking public input put on the plan before it's submitted to FEMA for approval,” she said.
The mayor directed residents to the city website for more information and emphasized that public comments will inform mitigation priorities included in the final plan.
