Clarkston planners continue Master Plan update after SEMCOG data arrives; consultant offers hourly support

Chairman Werner called the City of the Village of Clarkston Planning Commission to order at 7:00 p.m. on May 4, 2026. Commissioners approved the meeting agenda and the March 24 minutes by unanimous votes before moving to substantive business.
Commissioner Forte reported that she had received updated demographic data from SEMCOG (Southeast Michigan Council of Governments) that is needed to refresh the demographic section of the Master Plan. The commissioners reviewed the updated figures during the meeting and agreed to continue reviewing and updating other portions of the Plan at future sessions.
The commission discussed the degree of involvement the consultant firm Carlisle/Wortman should have in completing the Master Plan revision. City Manager Jonathan Smith and the commissioners conducted a teleconference with consultant Ben Carlisle. Carlisle said he "would be amenable to working on an hourly basis to answer questions and/or review proposed language changes to the Plan," and the group discussed using that arrangement to vet edits without committing to a full contract at this time.
The commission set its next meeting for Monday, June 1, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. A motion to adjourn, moved by Commissioner Forte and seconded by Commissioner North, carried unanimously; the meeting ended at 8:14 p.m.
