Public works staff reported the Sykes Road sewer line had been collapsing, producing sinkholes and disrupting traffic and sewer flow. The city budgeted $400,000 from the water and sewer reserve fund for the repair; the only responsive bidder submitted $533,570. To proceed without delaying repairs, staff recommended—and council approved—allocating an additional $150,000 from enterprise reserves so the contract could be awarded.
A city representative said the project will be fully funded from enterprise reserves and staff will coordinate with adjacent property owners to minimize access disruptions; council members requested continued outreach to residents and cautioned about later street rehabilitation costs that may follow the sewer repairs.
The motion to award the contract and shift reserve funding passed by voice vote.
