Students from Deer Path present garden-club update to Cary CCSD 26 board

Tom Gib, principal at Deer Path, brought students to the April 27 Cary Community Consolidated School District 26 board meeting to showcase the Deer Path Garden Club.
Gib told trustees that "Over 50 students have signed up this year to help start the garden and learn how our food grows," and outlined recent projects including winter sewing, ginkgo-tree plantings and garden cleanups. He said the club will plant squash, pumpkins, cucumbers and peppers on May 14 and 21.
Why it matters: Student extracurricular programs that engage learners in hands-on science and nutrition can support curriculum goals and community engagement. Trustees invited the students and community to participate in upcoming planting events.
The board listened to the presentation before moving to routine business.
