The Cary Community Consolidated School District 26 Board of Education voted April 27 to place an amended fiscal year 2026 budget on public display that would allow the district to transfer up to $6 million from the education fund to capital improvements.
David Shepard, appointed the board’s treasurer, told trustees the funds would pay for a solar-panel project and continue payments on the district’s transportation center construction. "The amended budget will allow us to transfer up to 6 million," Shepard said, adding that any unused funds would be reinvested.
By placing the amendment on display the board allows public review before the board takes final action; the administration told trustees the amended budget will remain on display until the board’s June 22 meeting, when formal approval is scheduled.
Why it matters: The proposed transfer shifts operating (education fund) resources to capital work; the board said the move would be offset by maturing investments. Trustees voted to place the amendment on display by roll call of members present.
