Board adds agenda items, accepts bids for refuse services and approves personnel items; motions carry
Summary
On April 30 the board added education, athletics and finance items to its May legislative meeting agenda, noted Republic Services as the low refuse/recycling bidder, approved personnel items in executive session and added the A.W. Beatty operating budget to the May agenda.
Trustees on April 30 moved a set of agenda additions and took routine actions to forward items to the May legislative meeting.
Board members voted to add multiple education items (Waterfront Learning Services addendum, AIU services agreement and PSBA delegate appointments) and several athletics items (handbooks and club sport recognitions and reimbursements) to the May 14 legislative meeting; motions to add these items carried after seconds by Mrs. Spade.
Under finance and operations, the board reviewed sealed bids for refuse and recycling services submitted in response to an RFP issued March 20, 2026. Four vendors responded (Republic Services, Waste Management, ProWaste, County Hauling); Republic Services was the low bidder. The proposed contract term would run July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029 with year‑one cost $51,938, year two $54,543, year three $57,245 and a three‑year total of $160,728.
Board members approved adding items 5–10 under finance and operations to the May legislative agenda and briefly discussed vendor pricing differences. One board member noted the Waste Management bid appeared considerably higher than others.
Personnel items discussed in executive session were presented for approval and the motions carried. The A.W. Beatty Career Center 2026–27 operating budget ($1,503,911 total; operating cost about $1.3M plus bond debt $203,123) was also added to the legislative meeting agenda after motion and second.
The board confirmed its next meeting will be May 14, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. in the North Hills Middle School LGI room and then adjourned.
