At a Stokes County planning session, the Board of Commissioners voted to approve a conditional rezoning submitted by Donald Tindle to allow a personal workshop and a dog kennel on roughly 4.08 acres.
Planning staff introduced plan case 24-55 and described the request as consistent with the Stokes County 2035 comprehensive plan; staff recommended approval. The board record later shows the approving motion identified as number 24-595.
Donald Tindle, the applicant, told the board the proposed building would be approximately 40 feet by 56 feet, would include concrete flooring and an on-site septic system, and would be used primarily for his own trained bird dogs. "It's just a side gig — I train dogs for people, board dogs for people," Tindle said. He said the kennel would hold a maximum of eight dogs and that the animals are trained to limit barking; he described using bark-control training collars when necessary.
Tindle also said the plan calls for a privacy tree line to provide screening and that the kennel would be located away from the church and cemetery cited in staff comments. Planning board members said the planning board had unanimously approved the request. A commissioner then moved to approve the rezoning; the motion carried by voice vote.
What happened next: the board recorded the motion and approved the rezoning, enabling Tindle to proceed with permitting and construction under the terms of the RACZ (residential agricultural conditional) zoning.
Clarifying details: planning staff stated the building footprint and distances to nearby features (roughly 400 feet from the nearby cemetery and about 500 feet from the church). The record does not include a roll-call vote tally or a list of commissioners voting; the board used a voice vote.
