Snowline board approves $14 million in construction contracts, outlines Measure J timelines

"Baldi Mesa's portion of the $14 million is $10,733,503 and Chaparel's portion is $3,343,543," Flynn said, noting the board would keep accounting separate for state reporting. The board approved the awards unanimously.
Flynn reviewed the schedule for several projects funded by Measure J, including a late‑summer target for track and field work and a June 1 target for setting interim portables so sites will be ready for an August school start. He said the district has already received state funding for the Toronto modernization and that the Pinion Hills project could receive approximately $2.7 million when it appears on the State Allocation Board agenda, tentatively in summer 2026.
On Baldi Mesa, Flynn described a phased approach: phase one will establish a construction yard and complete a new playground that can be built while classes continue; phase two would begin after students leave and address bus ramps, the primary field and new parking; a larger parking expansion and revised drop‑off lanes are planned for summer 2027.
Trustees and staff also discussed the bid alternates. Flynn said deductive alternates (for items such as extra playground elements and portable ramp work) totaled about $1.1 million and recommended moving forward with the base bids and not accepting most alternates to keep the projects aligned with district priorities and budgets.
Board President Hernandez called the awards and timeline approvals "an important step" toward the district's modernization goals and thanked staff for detailed planning.
Next steps include final contract execution, work phasing notices to affected schools and continued outreach to families about temporary traffic and drop‑off changes during construction.
