Goshen board approves temporary parking closure for resident moving downtown

Anthony Akens requested permission to temporarily occupy five angled parking spaces on the east side of North Main Street in front of Shirley's Popcorn and 108 North Main for a 28-foot moving truck while he moves between May 14 and May 15. He described the safety concerns of carrying belongings down many stairs and preferred a daytime closure with an overnight parking exception to allow the truck to remain on-site.
City engineering staff (Brad Minn) confirmed business owners in the area had reviewed the plan and that cones or other controls would be used to block parking during the closure. Staff recommended the five-space option for safety. The board voted unanimously to approve the closure, clarifying the period as beginning at 8 a.m. on May 14 and ending at 5 p.m. on May 15 (24-to-33-hour span as discussed at the meeting).
Akens said he had checked with nearby businesses and appreciated the city's help. The board wished him luck and reminded him to be careful while moving.
The approval included standard conditions (daytime closure with cones and coordination with the street department) and was granted by unanimous voice vote.
