Station Street paving complete; town adds sidewalks, crosswalks and 'No trucks' restriction

A presenter in a Simsbury community video reported that Station Street's reconstruction is finished and that crews will reopen the road to two‑way traffic after the asphalt dries and crews complete striping. The presenter said the project added new sidewalks, crosswalks and pedestrian signal buttons intended to improve safety for people walking in the area.

The presenter described several visible design choices intended to preserve the street's character: the original green light pole was retained and a brick accent was added to the sidewalk. "No trucks," a town sign placed at the roadway, was singled out as a measure to keep heavy vehicles off the narrower two‑way street.

Work beneath the roadway included new drainage and sewage lines installed while crews were excavating, the presenter said, and portable restrooms remained on site as crews complete finishing touches. The presenter also noted the town will paint lane lines in the coming days before formally opening the street to general traffic.

The presenter cautioned drivers about a separate temporary blockade on Iron Horse running through April 30 for renovations to a Shell station, and said the town continues other maintenance projects such as tree trimming and storm‑response coordination with Eversource. Residents were also encouraged to look out for the Simsbury Public Works street sweeper and tag the Simsbury News Instagram account if they capture a photo.
