Sugarman Suskin confirms continued counsel for Oldsmar board after attorney departs; 25% fee reduction offered

Mr. Robinson, appearing for Sugarman Suskin, told the Oldsmar Firefighter Pension Board on April 30 that the firm's recent staffing change — an attorney named Pedro has left the firm — would not interrupt legal representation for the plan.
"Life goes on at Sugarman Suskin and we've been your attorneys and are perfectly willing and able and ... hoping to continue as your attorneys," Mr. Robinson said. He said he will serve as the board's primary contact and introduced other team members who will support the plan.
Robinson also told trustees he will review the plan for any amendments required by recent changes to the Internal Revenue Code and return with recommended plan language if changes are needed. He offered a temporary 25% fee reduction "to give you sort of the time to familiarize yourself with me."
Board members discussed whether to retain Sugarman Suskin or solicit other firms. Trustees noted the long relationship with the firm (at least 15 years) and the value of continuity; others expressed interest in occasionally asking for fresh reviews or competitive comparisons. The board asked staff to add the current legal contract and invoicing to the next agenda and to gather comparative cost information so trustees can consider whether to pursue a formal request for proposals or an informal review of alternatives.
The board did not make a final decision on counsel at the meeting and agreed to continue the discussion at a subsequent meeting after staff compiles contract details and options.
