Council approves renaming part of San Vicente Terrace to Silus White Street

An attorney for the White family, Sedera Devon, called in to thank the city for the designation and urged the council to continue policy work that addresses historical injustices that hindered entrepreneurship, home ownership and generational wealth for affected communities. The council celebrated the action as one of several steps toward recognition and restorative work, and asked staff to involve family representatives when static signage is produced.
The measure passed unanimously; councilmembers emphasized that renaming is symbolic and that it must be accompanied by programmatic investments and the restorative justice initiatives the council has approved.
