Atoka takes first reading on FY26 budget amendment to cover fire apparatus and road repairs

Atoka’s board on March 10 took the first reading of an ordinance to amend the fiscal-year budget to reflect several approved expenditures.
Staff said the fire department appropriation would increase from about $2.487 million to $3.485 million to reflect a recently approved fire-apparatus purchase funded by a capital outlay note plus town supplement. Highways and streets appropriations would rise from roughly $1.62 million to $2 million to cover culvert and road repairs on Elizabeth Drive, Walker Parkway, Sterling Road and Faulner Road; parks appropriations would increase modestly to cover principal and interest payments associated with the capital outlay note.
The ordinance was read by title and received a favorable vote on first reading; a second reading will occur next month. Staff included a memo explaining that one payment originally budgeted in fiscal 2025 occurred in fiscal 2026, necessitating the carryover amendment.
The board did not take final action; staff was directed to return with the corrected ordinance title and a second-reading vote at the next regular meeting.
