The MSD Lawrence Township Board approved draft academic calendars for 2027–28 and 2028–29 and amended the currently approved 2026–27 calendar to add e‑learning on election day for even‑year elections.
Dr. Haas‑Brown said the calendar committee prioritized consistent parameters — 180 student days and 185 certified staff days per the collective bargaining agreement — and worked to balance semesters, professional development time and federal holidays. She described the amendment as a response to increased building use and traffic on election days and said the change is intended "for safety and to allow our staff to vote." The amendment adds the election e‑learning day for even years to the previously approved 2026–27 calendar.
Board members identified seven district sites that will host early voting for the upcoming primary and discussed logistical impacts and parking. The board voted to approve the calendars and the calendar amendment in the action portion of the meeting.
Next steps
The district will publish the approved calendars online and communicate date details to staff, families and community stakeholders; the election‑day e‑learning policy will be incorporated into calendar publications and related communications.
