The MSD Lawrence Township School Board voted to award two vendor contracts and said the bids will reduce operating costs while maintaining service levels.
Dr. Nesbitt presented the results of the custodial services request for proposals and recommended retaining the current provider, RJB Properties, as the lowest bidder. "1.65 million dollars per year from what we're paying right now," Dr. Nesbitt said, adding that the figure pushes savings toward $1.7 million annually.
Board members asked for clarification on what, if anything, the district would give up in order to secure those savings. Dr. Nesbitt said the district would receive the "exact same services" and that the RFP was written to require a flat rate with no surprise transition costs.
On security services, Dr. Nesbitt recommended moving from the district's current provider to Eclipse Staffing for sentries and event metal‑detecting support, stressing that the change "is not replacing our SROs" but provides additional support for high‑visibility sites and events. In response to a board question about whether existing staff would be retained, staff said hiring decisions would rest with the vendor and that the district expects the contract to be roughly cost‑neutral.
The board voted to approve both RFP awards during the action portion of the meeting.
What happens next
District staff will finalize contracts and begin implementation steps with both vendors, including scheduling, onboarding and vendor responsibilities. Board members said they expect continued reporting to monitor savings, service continuity and any staffing transitions.
Votes and procedure
The board moved and seconded the custodial and security contract approvals and recorded the motions as approved in the roll calls taken during the meeting. The district will report back to the board with implementation details and any impacts on current staff retention or operations.
