Board honors Carmel students for perfect ACTs and national media awards

Kevin McDonald, director of counseling at Carmel High School, introduced a recognition of CHS's Class of 2026 students who achieved perfect ACT composite scores, naming Zina Khan, Mera Nuthaki, Alan Chin, Disha Rupes, Allison Shin and Dean Watson.
The board then heard a series of program recognitions from the Greyhound Media Network. Mrs. Ramos, department chair for media and communications, and advisers highlighted state and national honors for several student media outlets. Jim Sterisel announced that The Highlight earned a Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Crown and an NSPA Pacemaker—national distinctions he said the program has repeatedly earned. Claire Burke noted the Pinnacle yearbook's Hoosier Star and NSPA critique distinctions and that the staff produced and distributed more than 3,000 copies of the 500‑page yearbook.
Brandy Es Stojic, CHTV adviser, announced an immediate national honor: CHTV won a student Emmy for best newscast in the country. "CHTV won a student Emmy today for best newscast in the country," Stojic said, and the board applauded the senior station staff and named student winners and advisers.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students. The district later summarized even more national achievements in the superintendent's report, including DECA students' results at an international competition.
No policy decisions were taken in the recognition block; the board paused after the presentations to allow a short break and moved on to the next agenda items.
