Fayette County spotlights elementary honors chorus, Kids Champion and Junior Achievement partnership

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky.
The Fayette County Board of Education opened its April 27 meeting by spotlighting student achievement and community partnerships. Fine Arts staff shared a rehearsal clip from the 2026 Elementary Honors Chorus, which the district said included 311 fourth- and fifth-grade singers from 32 elementary schools and featured a guest conductor and supporting instrumentalists from area schools.
Music teacher and chorus organizer Sabrina Bulmer introduced a fifth-grade participant, Via Baker, who described the rehearsal day and concert experience. "I like being in choirs because it is fun to sing with everyone," the student said.
The board also recognized April's Kids Champion, Eddie Meford, a lead custodian at Scaped Bluegrass. Superintendent Dr. Ligins and staff praised Meford's creativity and his role engaging students through art installations and supportive interactions in schools.
In a community partnership update, Miranda Scully introduced Dr. Laura Martin, president of Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass, who outlined JA's work in Fayette County. Dr. Martin said JA served nearly 14,000 Fayette County students in 2024-25, delivering more than 88,000 instructional hours and K-12 programming in financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship. Student alum Isaac Angelus Posh described how leadership and career-exposure activities connected classroom work with real-world experiences.
Why it matters: The recognitions and partner update highlighted district investments in arts, student engagement and career-readiness efforts that the district said align with the newly emphasized locally developed measures of student demonstration and "vibrant learning."
