The Lassen County Board of Supervisors approved an amendment to a behavioral-health grant to add funds for substance-use outreach focused on students.
Behavioral Health Director Armstrong and Megan Gray of the Lassen County Office of Education described the roughly $450,000 addition to an existing grant as funding outreach, engagement and prevention programming in K-12 settings. The program will focus on youth-targeted marijuana-vaping education, expand participation in the Friday Night Live youth program and fund a colocated position to coordinate between behavioral health and schools. Staff emphasized using youth voices in campaigns, including student-produced messaging for social platforms.
Armstrong said the funds will largely pass through behavioral health to the Office of Education. Board members asked whether vaping (tobacco vs. marijuana) would be covered; staff said tobacco vaping is addressed through a different program and this amendment targets marijuana vaping and other SUD work in schools. The board approved the amendment and authorized county staff to execute the agreement.
