During a demolition and site-preparation phase at the county plant administration building, project staff reported finding asbestos in the caulk of a single window. The discovery was not part of the original scope and requires an amendment to the project contract.
Staff requested a $2,585 amendment to cover abatement and engineering oversight: $2,185 for the abatement subcontractor and $400 for engineering fees. The committee moved to authorize the county chair or the project manager to sign the amendment; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff said the corrective work has been completed and the amendment seeks to formalize payment for the unanticipated abatement activity.
Next steps: staff will process the contract amendment and report any further scope changes to finance if necessary.
