Walton County backs grant application for a county housing strategic plan

Melissa Ward of the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee told commissioners the plan would map housing need over 5, 10, 15 and 20 years and identify measures to address affordability, worker housing and transportation gaps. She asked the board for a written letter of support and pledged community engagement if the grant is awarded.
Commissioners described the shortage of affordable workforce housing as a statewide issue and urged immediate steps to assemble stakeholders, inventory county‑owned land and explore partnerships with Habitat for Humanity and other nonprofits.
