South Fulton council adopts comprehensive plan, approves zoning and ordinance items

The South Fulton City Council adopted the city's 2026 Comprehensive Plan five-year update and acted on several zoning and ordinance items during its April 28 meeting.
Adoption of comprehensive plan: Reginald McClendon, managing director of community development and regulatory affairs, briefed the council on the plan and said it had been transmitted for review by the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Department of Community Affairs; the council took a recorded electronic vote and approved the plan unanimously. Staff said adoption initiates certification with the state agency and allows the city to enforce the updated plan immediately.
Other adopted measures: On subsequent votes the council approved an amendment to home-based business regulations (ordinance case T26-002) on its second reading after staff and planning commission clarification. The council also approved a special-use permit for a nail salon (case U26-004) in the MIX Clifton overlay district, with staff-recommended conditions. A separate rezoning application (KC26-005/CDP26-002) to develop 41 homes on roughly 13.83 acres was denied following the planning commission's recommendation for denial.
The clerk recorded votes as unanimous where motions were approved on the record. Several items were pulled for individual consideration and recorded separate electronic votes for transparency.
What happens next: The council recorded the first reading for the Wallace Road rezoning (KC26-007/KZ26-007) and set a May 12 vote for that item; community members are expected to monitor that meeting for the final council decision.
