District staff and CMF members used the meeting to explain how the summer language academy is selected and structured and to summarize recent assessment outcomes.
Staff said newcomer students are identified individually and invited to the summer academy; teams will begin inviting families the coming Friday to begin filling rosters. The summer program runs roughly mornings (about 8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.), with half the time devoted to intensive academics and the other half to enrichment called Brains in Motion (music, movement and coding). Social-emotional supports are provided through social work interns. Organizers said the summer pilots feed curriculum work for K–5 dual-immersion students and provide teacher coaching and data collection that inform year-round instruction.
Speakers listed the funding streams that support these efforts—LCAP and Title III—and noted investments in ebooks and audiobooks in multiple languages, vocabulary software, Spanish supplemental readers and culturally relevant library acquisitions. During the meeting staff described an improvement on an alternative proficiency measure, characterizing it as a roughly 20-percentage-point gain in ELPAC-related proficiency and cited a high reclassification rate, while also noting the district continues to refine pathways for reclassification.
Organizers asked parents to watch for invitations to the academy and said selection would begin immediately; they also reminded families of upcoming district opportunities including an LCAP presentation and a parent leadership celebration in May.
