Community of Multilingual Families names new officers and outlines parent-engagement push

Organizers described CMF’s purpose as a space where parents and school staff "can share our experiences, ask questions, and collaborate to improve the learning outcomes of our students," and urged members to use the new name rather than older acronyms to make meetings more inviting. Speakers proposed recurring, practical outreach: in-person tech workshops to teach ParentSquare and Zoom, low-tech event boards at school entrances and QR-code sheets linking families to short how-to videos. Lydia noted the district will support parents stepping into leadership roles.
Parents and staff emphasized that personal outreach matters more than mass messaging. Rebecca, a parent, described why many families do not attend: "My mom…she has never had an education…she's intimidated. If I go to this meeting, I won't even understand half of the things they're saying," and urged workshops that start at the most basic level for adult learners. Organizers said community liaisons and principals can provide one-on-one help and pledged to revive tech clinics and ESL/adult classes where available.
Attendees also suggested incentives to increase turnout, including student-driven rewards (homework passes) and a points system for attendance. The district will solicit CMF feedback on LCAP priorities in May and listed upcoming events: a district LCAP presentation May 13, a parent leadership celebration May 27 and a school spotlight at Rogers Middle School. The meeting ended with a call for members to recruit peers and share workshop links in community languages.
