The Kern County Board of Supervisors removed several nuisance-abatement properties from today’s consent agenda after residents described active disputes and asked staff for more time to resolve them.
Public commenter Miguel Ayon said he had cleaned up a Lake Isabella property only to find squatters and an on-site motorhome returned within days. “It’s becoming ... it’s horrible. It’s a nightmare with these people up there,” Ayon said while offering photos and an audio voicemail. Public Works Director Joshua Champion told the board the county treats these matters as property issues and recommended removing the parcel from the consent listing to allow staff to work with Ayon on a mutually beneficial solution. Staff withdrew the parcel and read a revised total into the record.
Other speakers, including Lisa Wilson Powell of Arvin and Danielle Milton of Tehachapi, described separate abatement or towing actions they said harmed their property and requested follow-up from county staff. Public Works acknowledged those concerns and recommended removing the associated consent items so staff could confer with the residents before returning with a resolution.
The board voted to approve the consent agenda with the listed exceptions; the meeting record shows the motion carried with all ayes. The clerk’s tally as announced during the meeting reflected a revised consent total after the removals.
Next steps: staff will engage individually with the affected property owners and return any unresolved matters to the board at a later date.
