Ogilvie board approves $273,150.21 in April claims, accepts donations and authorizes refrigerator purchase

The Ogilvie Public School District board unanimously approved April claims totaling $273,150.21 and accepted a package of donations during its meeting.

The claims motion passed on a roll-call vote with all members voting in favor. Following that vote, the board accepted multiple donations listed in the meeting packet: handcrafted aprons for the kitchen crew; $75 from Andrew and Natalie Gist for elementary field trips; $85 to the Judy Shadine fund (Kate Sakala); a $140 anonymous donation to the Own It store; $200 from First N First National Bank of Alaca to support a future softball trip; $250 from the Ogilvie Lions Club for Community Ed breakfast bingo prizes; $500 from Federated Co-op to the Eagle Scout project; and larger Lion’s Club contributions of $2,000 (post-prom), $2,000 (porta‑potty/outside-activities support) and $2,500 to the Eagle Scout garden project. Board members thanked donors for community support; the donation acceptance motion passed unanimously.

Separately, the board authorized a $5,548.61 purchase of an Everest replacement refrigerator to store special-diet items (lactose-free milk, diabetic supplies, gluten-free substitutions) close to the serving line. Administration said the unit was recommended after service staff determined the existing unit’s compressor and other parts are obsolete and replacement parts are not available. The recommended model was the lowest-cost quote that met specifications and included a strong warranty. The purchase was approved unanimously.
