The Tri-City United School Board took time in its meeting to recognize student athletes and staff and to hear a Community Education update.
Board members read results from the Special Olympics state bowling competition, naming student placings and inviting Cooper Johnson to the meeting as the lone attendee from the team. The board then presented Julie Tisdale with an Employee of the Month award for her work running the Lonsdale Kid Zone program; nominators highlighted program growth, summer registration numbers and staff supervision duties.
In an administrative report, Community Education staff reviewed fall events and upcoming offerings. Highlights included an ECFE literacy night, a pancake breakfast that drew a reported record crowd of 323 attendees and a $2,100 arts grant to support a spring drama program. Staff outlined the adults-with-disabilities levy application process (district-level estimate of approximately $3,300 in expected funds for related programming) and described an emerging mentoring program and fundraising efforts to equip a renovated center kitchen; early donations for kitchen equipment included two $1,250 gifts mentioned later in the meeting.
Board members applauded staff and encouraged continued outreach and fundraising for program support.
