Superintendent Champlain and extended-learning staff said the district tries to avoid early release but will consider safety and staff availability when deciding whether to cancel after-school programs. They said extended-learning programs can be managed on a case-by-case basis, and on at least one recent day the extended-learning director stayed to supervise a small group of students who had not yet been picked up.
The board directed staff to continue evaluating local staffing options and to clarify guidance for families about when after-school programs will run or be canceled in future weather events.
