At its May meeting the Monterey Planning Commission took the following formal actions:
Rooster prohibition (Item 3): The commission voted to approve staff's recommendation to prohibit roosters. Motion by Commissioner Stoker; second by Commissioner Bluth. Roll call: Chair Silva, Vice Chair Latasa, Commissioners Bluth, Freeman, Palmer and Stoker voted yes; item approved.
Vehicle-storage zoning amendment (Item 4): The commission voted to adopt a resolution recommending the City Council amend Chapter 38 to prohibit vehicle-storage uses on Industrial Research parcels that carry the multifamily residential overlay (Garden Road to Highway 68). Motion by Commissioner Stoker; second by Commissioner Bluth. Roll call recorded yes votes from Chair Silva, Vice Chair Latasa, Commissioners Bluth, Freeman, Palmer and Stoker; Commissioner Paulie was recorded as abstaining. The commission forwarded the recommendation to the City Council.
Reasonable-accommodation regulations (Item 5): The commission voted unanimously to recommend that the City Council amend the zoning code to limit initial review of reasonable-accommodation requests to staff and create an appeal path to the Disabled Access Appeals Board. Motion by Commissioner Freeman; second by Commissioner Palmer. Roll call: unanimous yes.
Sign permit—5 Lower Ragsdale (SI-260028): The commission voted to deny a roof-sign permit for Selenus Valley Health for a proposed 3,537-square-foot matte, non-illuminated roof sign, citing inconsistency with sign guidelines and concerns about precedent and visibility. Motion to deny by Commissioner Palmer; second by Commissioner Paulie. Roll call: Chair Silva, Vice Chair Latasa, Commissioners Bluth, Freeman, Palmer and Paulie voted yes; the decision is appealable to the City Council within 10 days.
