The Franklin Area School District board on April 27 recognized two Venango Technology Center welding students who won gold in the Pennsylvania SkillsUSA welding fabrication competition and advanced to the SkillsUSA national conference in Atlanta June 1–5, 2026.
Mr. Holloman, the junior–senior high school co‑principal, presented the students and told the board they won the state competition after advancing from district contests and competing against students from multiple other districts. The board greeted the recognition with applause.
The superintendent and board members praised the students and Venango Technology Center for providing career and technical education that leads directly to employment opportunities. A student who spoke at the meeting emphasized the value of vocational training and said votech graduates can move into well‑paying jobs after completing their programs.
Board members noted the recognition underscores the district’s broader efforts to highlight nonathletic student achievements and to ensure vocational programs receive equal recognition with other extracurricular accomplishments.
The board did not take action related to the students’ advancement; the presentation was informational recognition on the agenda.
