College Place council approves consent agenda; city administrator briefs council on grants and staffing

The College Place City Council unanimously approved its consent agenda Aug. 28, which included the meeting agenda, approval of minutes from April 14 and November 2025 financials, excusing the absence of Council Member Sherman, approval of a Noanet Internet contract, and appointments of Jim Fry to the Planning Commission and Jessica Benzel to the Salary Commission.
A council member moved to approve the consent agenda; the motion was seconded and the council voted in favor. The clerk confirmed no public commenters had requested to speak for tonight’s meeting.
City Administrator Rurn gave an administrative update after the action items. He said the city administrator’s brief is posted on the city website and that staff had notified all community-grant recipients and completed the related agreements. ‘‘They’re notified and...they’re already moving forward with their milestones,’’ City Administrator Rurn said. He said staff will produce short videos to point residents and small businesses to the posted brief and that the EDTE — the economic development, tourism and events commission — will meet Monday and advise the council on proposals.
Rurn also told the council that three applicants were interviewed for city attorney and that there was unanimous support for the interim city attorney who is already serving in that role pending reference checks and a financial feasibility review. He said the local newspaper’s Union-Bulletin plans a piece about council vacancies.
The council was reminded that the packet contains the police department and community development monthly reports and was asked to direct any questions on those items to the respective department heads. With no new or unfinished business, a motion to adjourn carried and the meeting ended at 6:13 p.m.
