Dr. Lutz described how threat‑assessment teams operate: teams review student behaviors or comments that might indicate risk, assess transient versus imminent threats, and involve law enforcement when a threat cannot be resolved locally or when there is evidence of means or intent. Presenters emphasized training (youth suicide awareness, trauma‑informed approaches, multi‑tiered supports) and that each school will have a threat‑assessment team with consistent district‑level members and behavioral or clinical supports as needed.
Committee members asked how the process handles threats that originate outside the district or outside Springfield Township Police jurisdiction; staff said the district will contact the agency best positioned to respond (local, county, state or federal) and noted prior coordination with the FBI on cyber threats.
Staff said they will bring both the revised MOU and the updated policy to the full board on May 5; the presenter said the MOU renewal will extend coverage to 2028.
