Cross Plains board approves sensory‑impaired child sign on West View Court
Summary
Following a public comment urging protection for a child with autism, the board authorized installation of a sensor sign (approx. $180 each) on West View Court, placed about 150 ft from the driveway on both sides; staff said signs can be removed and re‑used if the family moves.

A public comment and a subsequent staff recommendation prompted the Village of Cross Plains Board on April 27 to approve installation of a sensory‑impaired child traffic sign on West View Court.
Resident Alyssa Weekes addressed the Board to request the sign on behalf of her sister and seven‑year‑old nephew, describing the child’s sensory processing needs, limited safety awareness and a propensity to elope. "We are asking the town to install a sensor sign near the residence. This is a low cost high impact measure that provides a vital visual cue for drivers to slow down," she said.
Public Safety staff presented a simple approach: install a sign on both sides of the driveway area (150 ft on each side) without instituting a burdensome application process for a single request. Board members discussed placement constraints near driveways and the option to remove and relocate signs if the family moves. Estimated cost per sign was reported at about $180.
Trustees moved and seconded a motion to approve installation; the motion passed by voice vote.
