Planning commission defers Morgan Road subdivision after resident drainage concerns

The City of Central Planning & Zoning Commission voted to defer a preliminary plat request for 6335 Morgan Road to its Aug. 27 meeting after neighbors objected and the applicant’s representatives said key participants were unavailable.
Lyall Cockerham, a neighbor who said he lives two properties away, told the commission the area already has drainage problems and “this is going to make the drainage worse.” The applicant’s counsel, K Jackson of Keen Miller, told commissioners the applicant’s surveyor and attorney were out of state and requested additional time to secure new counsel and to ensure witnesses could attend. Jackson said the applicant could make June dates available but did not object to a later deferral if the commission preferred.
Commissioners held a public hearing, heard no other speakers in opposition at the meeting, and approved a motion to defer the item to Aug. 27 so the applicant and surveyor can be present. The decision preserves neighbors’ chance to testify in person at a later date.
The next procedural step is the August hearing; staff will carry the item forward on the agenda and notify registered parties.
