The superintendent said the district would initially secure and mothball the building for storage, then evaluate leasing or sale options later. Members also noted the district could put the property out to bid, lease space, or work with outside agencies, and that decisions would follow the district’s legal and procurement processes.
Board members asked whether the town’s decision had been a voter issue; the superintendent said the conveyance had been placed on the town ballot and town officials and attorneys are now determining how to proceed. The board requested staff and counsel continue to work with the town and return with recommendations.
The motion to “act to retain Marobi Elementary School if the town of Mexico does not accept conveyance by July 1, 2026” was approved unanimously; the motion text and final procedural mover/second are recorded in the meeting minutes. The board directed staff to secure the building and report back with options and costs.
