Board approves technology purchases, expects E‑rate reimbursement

The Bennington Public Schools Board approved a package of technology purchases on March 9 totaling $158,762.
Technology coordinator Robin outlined four categories: document cameras for Anchor Point (about $279 each), a set of 10 small Minimax devices for the high school journalism lab, replacement 'box light' classroom displays for Anchor Point (roughly $78,000) and 13 network switches (approximate $62,219) that the administration said are E‑rate eligible. District staff told the board they expect about 40% of the eligible switch cost to be reimbursed through E‑rate but cautioned the reimbursement arrives after purchase and requires detailed federal grant paperwork.
Robin said recent orders also included 900 Chromebooks and 140 MacBooks previously approved; the district noted those purchases and the current package keep total technology spending roughly $51,000 under the board’s $500,000 target for the year after factoring expected reimbursements.
A motion to approve the technology purchases passed by roll call. Staff said replacement and lifecycle planning guides the timing of the purchases and that multi‑year refresh planning is in place for displays, switches and printers.
