District reports student drives, sports wins and auditorium construction at Nov. 17 board meeting

District leaders used the Nov. 17 board meeting to highlight student activities and an ongoing capital project. Superintendent Dr. Zuckerman and school principals summarized community-oriented service projects, athletic accomplishments and construction updates.
Student representative Yousef Dagley said student groups — including student council, FFA, Black and Brown Student Alliance, DECA and NHS — have organized food and toy drives, fundraisers and volunteering opportunities (the Health Science Club is fundraising through Nov. 23 with a target noted in his remarks). Dagley described a holiday food collection and a toy drive (box in the main foyer through Dec. 3) and noted NHS volunteer opportunities at the Crossroads Library.
Principals reported athletic successes and upcoming events: the girls’ soccer team won a sectional championship and was scheduled to play Shawnee in the state semifinals on Nov. 19; multiple teams advanced in playoffs and four Division I student-athletes signed letters of intent. The high-school principal also noted a large homecoming turnout (about 800 students) and upcoming theater performances (Peter and the Starcatcher) with dates and times provided.
On facilities, the superintendent and administrators said steel erection for the auditorium has begun; the main parking-lot entrance will be closed during work hours (roughly 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. through about Nov. 30) with access available via the bus lot driveway and the main office entrance remaining open.
Board members congratulated students and staff on fundraising and competitive accomplishments and were encouraged to attend playoff and stage events where feasible. The meeting included routine committee reports and no public comments were offered during the public-comment period.
