The Bledsoe County Board of Education handled a range of routine but consequential items in its meeting, approving financial reports and multiple administrative requests and receiving updates from district staff.
Finance director Carol Lawing asked the board to approve quarterly reports through March 31, 2026; the board approved the reports with no substantive questions. The board then approved two budget amendments: one to record a school security alert ballot grant and another to move funds to cover overspent line items.
A minor revision to policy 2.400 (revenues) to authorize rounding cash transactions (the transcript described it as a penny‑shortage rounding change) was approved. The board also accepted a three‑year memorandum of understanding with certified teachers that clarified paid bereavement leave language and removed an outdated reference to coaches in daily attire language.
Procurement and operational approvals included selecting Johnson's (local vendor) for the high‑school yearbook (lower per‑copy cost and local shipping), approval of electrical materials purchases for two elementary schools, and discussion/authorization steps toward purchasing an 83‑passenger diesel bus (board debated engine and AC options). The board approved a middle‑school 321 photography contract and signed off on recommended textbooks for advanced manufacturing, welding, IT/coding and lifetime wellness.
Director and supervisory updates closed the meeting: testing has wrapped up, a published strategic plan and implementation strategies were shared, and Rachel Wyatt presented an overview of federal programs (Title I, Title II, Title IV and preK funding) and upcoming consolidated funding application timelines.
The board noted the next regular meeting is scheduled for June 1 and discussed a possible additional summer meeting to review legislative changes and substitute policies.
