Ogden City Youth Council reports year of tours, service and civic learning

Brandon Garcide, the council's communications director and adviser to the Ogden City Youth Council, presented the council's FY2025-26 annual report on May 5, outlining recruitment, service and civic-learning activities. The youth council drew applicants from Ogden High, New Ames and Ben Lomond, and organized tours of the Union Station and water treatment facilities to teach members about local history and municipal operations.
Haime Himenez Lopez, representing the youth council at the meeting, described tours of the Union Station and the water treatment plant and said they helped him better understand the city's history and public services, including water management operations. Garcide noted the council's community-service work, including a Thanksgiving dinner at the Lantern House where volunteers distributed hygiene kits, and family events at the Marshall White Center.
The council also participated in Local Officials Day at the state capitol and attended a legislative dinner organized with Weber-Morgan public-health youth councils that focused on youth health issues including tobacco prevention and mental-health supports. Garcide described outreach and recruiting efforts for the coming year, including school visits and an online application portal at ogdencity.gov/youthcouncil.
The presentation closed with an invitation for questions from council members and a reminder that the report will inform year-ahead programming and recruiting plans for the Ogden City Youth Council.
