Kasson City council schedules assessment hearing, accepts firefighter resignation and hears administrative reports

At the meeting, the Kasson City Council called a public hearing on proposed assessments for a set of infrastructure projects and accepted personnel and administrative updates.
Engineering staff reported bids for several projects including work on the southwest water tower, trails, water-main replacement and downtown resurfacing. The council voted to call a public hearing on assessments to be held May 14 at city hall; award of any contract will be considered after the hearing and is not final at this stage.
In personnel business, the council accepted the resignation of probationary firefighter Mr. Ellenson and thanked him for his service.
The administrator provided updates on the state budget outlook and local government aid forecasting, park-and-rec improvements (tree plantings, a modular installation and fundraising for an accessible swing), and a housing-study effort expected to yield a draft in early–mid July. Council members also discussed rental fees for the fire hall after a community request to consider nonprofit waivers; staff was asked to compile rental and cost data and to return with a recommendation during the routine fee-schedule review later in the year.
The meeting concluded after routine correspondence and a round-table discussion; council adjourned.
