Vestavia Hills students celebrated at board meeting for state and national titles

The Vestavia Hills Board of Education opened its March 30 meeting by recognizing student teams that won state titles and earned national placements.
Board members introduced varsity Rebellettes and junior varsity Rebellettes, with several student participants identifying themselves by first name and grade. Wesley, a senior and the varsity captain, described the team's national placements: fourth in team performance, seventh in game day and a top finish at state. The junior varsity group, introduced by coach Lindsay Trail House, earned state and national championships in team performance, staff said.
The board also acknowledged the speech and debate team, which staff said won a fifth consecutive state championship and will send multiple students to nationals this summer. Students detailed events they will contest, including public forum and international extemporaneous. "We'll be competing in public forum," one student said when describing the nationals lineup.
Board members applauded the students and praised parents and coaches for their work; the recognitions were accompanied by sustained applause and words of congratulations from board members.
